The series of pages under this heading will feature the history of the Cordwainers Society of Barnsley, founded in March 1747/8 and reputed to be the oldest surviving local Friendly Society in England. Much of this content will have been moved from a previous, dedicated site, but in many cases revised in the process to form a full history of the Society from its origins until about the middle of the 20th Century. It has relations to Bashforth Family History, in that several members of the family were members, and the author was admitted to membership after commencing the research into the Society. As pages are added, these will be flagged up on the main blog with appropriate links. The long term aim is to provide a pre-publication version of the history.
